PUGET SOUND BEAD FESTIVAL 2009 STUDENTS

Thank you for your interest in my classes at the Puget Sound Bead Festival in Tacoma, WA. This page has information for registered students about materials and supplies, sorted by class.

Supplies are available from myself or other sources online and by catalog. On my other site for my bead and yarn shop, Perlz Beads & Yarns, we have an online store where I have listed kits and individual tools for my classes - many at prices that are less than what you would pay at online retailers. You can be assured that the tools listed are my recommended models for the class and they can be conveniently shipped directly to you.

The deadline for ordering supplies and having them shipped to you before class is Monday, June 29th. Any orders placed after that cannot be guaranteed for delivery in time for class. I may be able to bring tools and supplies with me to class. Be sure to contact me directly to make arrangements.

BUTANE FUEL
If you signed up for a class that requires a butane torch, you should bring a canister of butane fuel to class. Nozzles on these fuel canisters vary, so please try to match the size of the nozzle to the receptacle on the bottom of your torch. The nozzle should be narrow, either plastic or metal, to fit the brand of torches I sell. Because of hazardous materials fees it's not cost effective to ship butane to my students with their orders, but if you receive your tools before the show, you should be able to go out and match a fuel canister to your torch. Sources include convenience stores, smoke shops and hardware stores, culinary supply shops - anywhere that sells culinary torches or lighters.

I have it on pretty good authority that butane will be available at the show booth. I will have a few canisters with me for sale, as well, and I wouldn't be surprised if other vendors at the show also carry butane for sale. There may also be some at local hardware stores, etc. Feel free to email me with any questions.

about me

My name is Joe Silvera and I am a humble metalsmith, wax carver, co-owner of a bead and yarn store, and jewelry teacher. Writing a bio about myself seems like a perfect time to try to make sense of the crooked road that led me to here and now. After wandering around California State University at Long Beach as a general arts major, taking painting, sculpture and illustration classes, I tried a jewelry class, because my college roommate showed me his samples from his class. I loved it immediately, because I could bring everything from my fine arts background to jewelry.
